Duane Betts Releases New Single “Saints to Sinners”

Published on Jun 27th, 2023

Debut Solo Album Wild & Precious Life (July 14 / Royal Potato Family) Features Derek Trucks, Marcus King, and Nicki Bluhm / Recorded at Tedeschi Trucks’ Swamp Raga Studios

Duane Betts has released a new single from his full length solo album debut –  Wild & Precious Life (July 14 / Royal Potato Family).  “Saints to Sinners” captures a feeling of joy and triumph: guitar, slide guitar, piano, organ, crashing cymbals and percussion create a wall of sound, over which Betts meditates on the challenges of choosing the right path.  Says Betts, “I think each of us has things in our lives that gnaw at us, pull us in directions we don’t want to go. ‘Saints To Sinners’ is a song about my desire to always be moving in the right direction. We all have a saint and sinner in us. The challenge is to push through to the good things.”

Betts has emerged from a two-plus decade career spent sitting-in regularly with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Allman Brothers Band, leading rock outfits Backbone69 and Whitestarr, playing alongside his father in Dickey Betts & Great Southern, and touring as the guitarist for folk-rockers Dawes to unveil his solo debut. It’s a fierce record that captures the emotional release of Betts’ journey to sobriety, his experience falling in love with his soulmate, and acknowledging the fleeting joys of life.

The album features Derek Trucks, Marcus King and Nicki Bluhm, and was recorded live to tape over two weeks at Trucks and Susan Tedeschi’s Swamp Raga studio in Jacksonville, Florida.  A compelling addition to the wider catalog of music under The Allman Brothers Band’s musical family umbrella, Wild & Precious Life celebrates wild, swampy rock n’ roll while breaking new ground in the genre.

Betts has shared two other songs from Wild & Precious Life, “Waiting on a Song” and “Stare At The Sun,” an ode to his father featuring Derek Trucks on slide guitar. Betts discussed the project recently with Garden & Gun and Goldmine, which calls the album “masterful,” and adds: “while it’s taken 20 years for Betts to make his official debut, this record was worth the wait.”

Duane Betts and his band Palmetto Motel will be touring all summer in support of Wild & Precious Life. The run gets underway today, a co-headline bill with Maggie Rose that includes Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.  Betts and his band are also hosting a 3-night festival in Jackson Hole, WY, called Horseshoe Music Festival that was just announced and will include late night DJ sets, curated food, a wellness retreat and artist/fashion vendors.  See below for the full itinerary of headlining shows and festival appearances.
