A DECADE OF MUSIC ARCHIVE: EVERY SHOW, EVERY BAND THAT’S PLAYED FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS

Photo Recap: Prince Daddy + The Hyena and Drug Church at HI-FI

Published on Mar 8th, 2023

On Wednesday March 1st, the co-headlining tour of Drug Church and Prince Daddy + The Hyena made its way to a packed HI-FI for the nearly-sold-out show. Also along for the ride were special guests Anxious and Webbed Wing as support.

Pits were moshed, teeth were lost, and fun was had by all.

Drug Church

Drug Church is a band without fear. For the past ten years, the Albany and Los Angeles-based five-piece have been staunchly creating their own singular path in making distinctly outsider music that’s somehow at once welcoming and instantly satisfying. The band’s songs revel in sonic contradictions, seamlessly combining crushing aggression with bulletproof hooks, while the lyrics unflinchingly explore life’s darkness and discomfort with sardonic wit—and without judgement. Drug Church is here to move you, not to lecture you.

Prince Daddy + The Hyena

Whether vocalist/guitarist Kory Gregory is relaying his fears more vicariously and allegorically though songs like ‘The Collector’ or in a more direct fashion, Prince Daddy & The Hyena delves deep into the heart of darkness at its core. That blur between and juxtaposition of darkness and levity is something this band has always done well, and the four-piece utilize that technique to maximum effect. You can hear that chemistry, that magic, that synergy, all the way through.
