Such A Night–Recreating the Music of The Band’s Last Waltz
Start Time: 8:00 pm
ARTIST PROFILE | Such A Night
Such A Night–Recreating the Music of The Last Waltz was inspired following the death of The Band’s drummer, Levon Helm, in April of 2012; a small group of Indianapolis musicians decided to get together and play the songs of The Band to honor Mr. Helm’s legacy. As word of their endeavors began to spread amongst the local music community, the group grew, and it was decided to recreate The Band’s legendary final show, The Last Waltz. That concert, also a brilliant film and soundtrack directed by Martin Scorsese, features The Band and several of the biggest musicians of the day.
“Such A Night” was named after the Dr. John song in the Scorsese film. “The Band” will be comprised of Central Indiana musicians Wade Parish, Bill Mallers, Tad Armstrong, Matt Wilson, and David England along with horns––Eric Evans, Michael Strickland and Rich Dole playing many of The Band’s hits including “Up On Cripple Creek,” “Stage Fright,” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” Additionally throughout the show guest musicians in order of appearance will include some of Indy’s finest talent:
Jonathan Martin as Ronnie Hawkins
Gary Wasson as Neil Young
Jamika and Brandy Jones as the Staple Singers
Mike Wiltrout as Neil Diamond
Mina Keohane as Joni Mitchell
Doug Henthorn as Paul Butterfield
Danny Thompson as Muddy Waters
Brian Deer as Eric Clapton
Ken Honeywell as Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Stasia Demos as EmmyLou Harris
Matt Mays as Van Morrison
Tim Brickley as Bob Dylan
Proceeds will benefit the Friends of Indy Animals’ Journey Home capital campaign. The Journey Home campaign is raising $7M to support the City’s construction of a new animal shelter.
The show offers the experience of an incredible moment in time when talented musicians come together to perform unforgettable songs. There is something magical about the show – the evening of music leaves you with a smile on your face and a heart full of joy. Past performances in Ft. Wayne, Louisville, Bloomington, and Indianapolis have sold out.
