Vlad Holiday shares new single “This Was Always Gonna End” from debut album

Published on Oct 16th, 2024

Vlad Holiday has shared the third single of his upcoming debut album, My Favorite Drug. The new song, entitled “This Was Always Gonna End”, is a wistful, nostalgia-tinged tune, the perfect setting to continue the story told on the rest of the album. But, listeners are going to have to wait to hear the rest…the full album will drop via ONErpm on November 15. Pre-save the whole album HERE, and stream “This Was Always Gonna End” HERE.

“This song is about one of my lowest moments, and the beginning of my mental health recovery,” shares Holiday. “My therapist at the time wasn’t working, and the only thing that got me out alive was writing about what I was going through. I know it’s a heavy way to start an album but I wanted to be very open from the start. Looking back on it all now, I feel extremely lucky and hopeful that the worst is behind me.”

Originally hailing from Romania but now based in Nashville, Holiday’s lo fi sound utilizes vintage microphones, tape machines, and other similarly antiquated equipment. While he’s been releasing music for years, Holiday says he never saw himself recording a full-length album. But, as he worked on the tracks that comprise “My Favorite Drug”, he realized the story being told by all the songs together was too good to not be told. Holiday has released two other singles off the album already: “I Don’t Wanna Party Anymore” featuring Kacey Musgraves, and “Closer”, co-written with Cage The Elephant’s Matt Schultz.

Next week, Holiday will kick off a North America and Canada tour supporting Declan McKenna, during which he will headline a show himself at the LO-FI Lounge on November 7th. See all the tour dates below:
