Support Spotlight: Yes, we’re here for the openers! https://hifiindy.com/2023/05/02/support-spotlight-yes-were-here-for-the-openers/ Tue, 02 May 2023 21:31:04 +0000 https://hifiindy.com/?p=17988 more »]]> Everyone remembers that one band they discovered back in their early days when they only had a few tunes, performed in smaller venues and clubs, bootlegged their own merch, and toured around packed like sardines in the deathtrap of all tour vans. Chances are, you discovered this band as an opening act.

But just look at them now. They’ve grown up right before your eyes, eventually moving up to headliner status, playing to bigger rooms and bigger crowds. Maybe their music has matured over the years, or taken a different direction. Maybe they have some new members. They might not even play their big hits anymore that first hooked you in. But you still love their music, you still get tickets whenever they come back to town. And you get to say “Yep, I remember stumbling upon them when they were just a baby band.”

Everyone’s got to start somewhere, right?

Check out our list of opening acts we’re most excited to see at HI-FI and HI-FI Annex this May!

Wednesday, May 3rd – Sicard Hollow

Supporting Kitchen Dwellers at HI-FI

Nashville’s psychedelic punk-grass rockers, Sicard Hollow, grew up sick of any existing institution telling them who and what to be. Now, as they navigate adulthood, they’re equally tired of the music institutions telling them what their music should sound like— so they dunked it in patchouli and a skate-and-destroy ethos that brings an enduring sound into the modern age.

Friday, May 30th – Lily & Madeleine

Supporting Jess Williamson at HI-FI

Lily and Madeleine Jurkiewicz create candid music with deep emotional and personal resonance. The sisters boldly explore what it means to be women in the 21st century, and aren’t afraid to use their music to call out injustices or double standards. This fearless approach has permeated their three albums, which are full of insightful lyrics and thoughtful indie-pop.

But with their fourth studio album, Canterbury Girls (New West Records) —named after Canterbury Park, located in their hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana—the sisters are coming into their own as women and musicians.
