When you’re struggling in the moment\, it can feel like you’re the only one\, but that’s just not the truth. I wanted to make a record to remind you that you’re not alone.” \nIt makes sense\, then\, that Frasco’s rousing new LP\, ‘Keep On Keepin’ On\,’ lands somewhere between an emotionally raw therapy session and a rowdy house party. Produced in part by Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools and in part by former Awolnation keyboardist Kenny Carkeet\, the collection finds Frasco digging deeper than he’s ever dug before\, fusing ecstatic rock and soul with infectious pop and funk as he grapples with the kind of demons he’s spent the better part of his adult life running from. The songs here are blunt in their honesty and unsparing in their self-examination\, but they remain\, at their core\, works of great hope and promise. They’re the work of a man who’s been through the darkest part of the night and\, now that dawn is finally breaking\, is ready to share his story. \n“Making this record helped me accept that I needed therapy in my life\,” Frasco explains. “I always used to think I was too proud or too strong to have a therapist\, but I realized that was all bullshit. I’m not always the fun\, wild guy people see onstage\, and it felt like time to talk about who I really am.” \nBorn and raised in California\, Frasco’s first exposure to the music industry came not onstage\, but rather in an office. As a young teenager\, he worked with legendary indie label Drive-Thru Records and helped book bands like Hellogoodbye\, and by the time he turned 18\, he’d already moved to New York City for a gig with Atlantic Records. When the job fell through\, though\, Frasco made a leap of faith and decided to launch his own career as an artist\, taking everything he’d learned working with other bands and applying it to himself. \n“I figured I could teach myself an instrument\, book my own tours\, and try to write some songs that’d help make the world go round\,” he says. “I bought a van with my bar mitzvah money\, called about 3\,000 venues\, and managed to book myself 200 shows in that first year alone.” \nInitially\, Frasco hired local pickup musicians off of Craigslist to back him for gigs\, but soon he put together a steady(ish) lineup\, and Andy Frasco & The U.N. began taking the world by storm. Since its inception\, the group would release a series of acclaimed records\, share bills with the likes of Leon Russell\, Galactic\, Gary Clark\, Jr.\, The Revivalists\, and Marcus King among others\, and slay festival stages everywhere from Mountain Jam in the U.S. to Rock am Ring in Germany and COTAI Jazz & Blues in China (this summer\, Frasco will appear at both Bonnaroo and FloydFest). NME hailed the constantly evolving group as “party-starting touring stalwarts\,” while Relix praised their “raucous energy\,” and Clash lauded their live show as a “nightly high-octane experience that doubles as a celebration of life and music…energized by a powerfully entertaining multi-cultural soundtrack that will shake the foundations of all nearby structures.” \nEvery party has to end sometime\, though\, and while it seemed Frasco was living out his rock and roll dreams on tour\, he was facing an internal darkness few knew about. \n“I hit a breaking point\,” he explains. “Last year\, I was sitting alone in my van\, and I realized that I didn’t know who my friends were. Worse\, I didn’t know who I was. I was drinking too much\, I was addicted to cocaine\, and I was dealing with really heavy depression. I even contemplated suicide\, but I decided that if I’m fortunate enough to leave behind a legacy\, I didn’t want to be remembered just as some good-time party guy. I wanted to show people that I’m more than the crowd-surfing\, Jameson-drinking maniac they see onstage.” \nSo\, for the first time in his life\, Frasco began writing poetry. The idea was that the poems would eventually become songs\, but Frasco decided to start just the words to ensure that his message of survival and resilience remained at the heart of everything he did. He wrote about despair and anxiety\, about friendship and growth\, about accountability and potential. Whenever he could scrape together a few days off from tour\, he’d fly home to LA to work with Carkeet or head to Richmond to collaborate with Schools on transforming the poems into defiant rock and roll anthems. Over the course of a single 100-night stretch\, Andy Frasco & the U.N. played 81 shows and managed to record the entire album with the remaining 19 days. \n“What can I say?” Frasco laughs. “I like to work.” \nThe joy Frasco takes in his work is obvious from the very start of ‘Keep On Keepin’ On\,’ which roars out of the gate with the thrilling title track. Inspired in part by the story of comedian Gary Gulman (Frasco recently scored ‘The Great Depresh\,’ an HBO documentary exploring the comic’s struggles with depression that was produced by Judd Apatow and directed by Mike Bonfiglio)\, the song is equal parts self-help and sing-along\, and like much of the record to come\, it celebrates perseverance in the face of pain. The soulful “I’ve Got A Long Way To Go” reflects on the strength it takes to acknowledge your problems\, while the driving “Good Man” examines how hard (and how rewarding) it is to become a better version of yourself\, and the soaring “Animals” reaches out in solidarity to anyone who needs an a hand in the depths of their depression. \n“I host a podcast where I talk to musicians and comedians and actors about life on the road\,” says Frasco\, who’s interviewed everyone from Portugal. The Man to Todd Barry on his show. “Those conversations have been so eye opening\, and they helped me realize that I wasn’t alone in what I was dealing with. I wanted to find a way to offer that same comfort to people with my music.” \nWhile there are no shortcuts on the road to fulfillment\, Frasco did find some pearls of wisdom on his journey that he was eager to share. “Happiness is living in the moment\,” he proclaims on the epic “Shine\,” introducing a mantra that could easily double as a thesis statement for the record as a whole. The funky “None Of Those Things” affirms that material wealth can never compare to the riches that come from being present in the moment\, while the slinky “Getaway” declares that the only thing standing between us and our potential is ourselves\, and the tender “Feel It In Our Bones” promises that\, at the end of the day\, “you are never alone.” \n“I wanted to approach suffering with optimism on this record\,” reflects Frasco. “I’m not the kind of guy to sit there and drown in my sorrows; I’m the kind of guy who wants to get out and fight for my happiness. Change is possible if you’re willing to do the work. You’ve got just got to keep on keepin’ on.” \n  \nAbout DJ Dangler: \nListen | Watch Video \nD J Dangler grew up in a small Midwestern town. Being the youngest of six kids\, he was essentially ignored until his father realized he was probably big enough to be good at football. He occupied his time engaging in anything that would bring him attention; sports\, plays\, clubs\, arrests\, etc. \nHe graduated from college and moved to New York City. He loved it. It was like being born in a small Midwestern town was some sort of giant practical joke. That’s fine though\, he got the joke\, and it was very funny. D J knew he eventually wanted to go back to school\, and acquire newer\, fancier\, worthless degrees\, but while he was in New York\, he started telling jokes\, and people liked it. \nNow he travels around the country working clubs and colleges. He has appeared at Caroline’s on Broadway and Gotham Comedy Club in New York City. His style is sharp\, and high energy. He draws from his many and varied interests to relate to most any crowd. He blends New York cynicism with genuine Midwestern agreeability to present a different take on both the trivial and substantial aspects of life. \nD J is a firm believer that people are pretty much the same everywhere\, and if you can make those people laugh\, you don’t have to have a real job.

The event will also feature opening act Kevin Morby\, who was originally scheduled to perform with Rateliff as part of his cancelled Red Rocks dates in August. Kevin Morby will perform at 8:00PM ET and Nathaniel Rateliff will perform at 8:45PM ET. \nFilmed with 9 cameras\, viewers will have unprecedented access to the musicians\, stage and iconic venue for a full-fledged virtual event while capturing a moving performance from Rateliff’s “And It’s Still Alright” tour. The livestream event will feature custom lighting that sets stage as a beautiful backdrop captured by roaming cameras\, drone footage and stark imagery of the empty venue. \n“This is our way of sharing the show with everyone around the world. We worked as hard as ever to put this show together and we don’t know when we will be able to get back out there\,” says Rateliff. “Whether you are on stage or in the audience Red Rocks is certainly the best place in the world to play. Our year has been strange and our future uncertain\, I think the only thing we can do is try to understand each other better and love each other. It is a hard time and I encourage everyone to be open and vulnerable to those you love. They are just waiting for you.” \nThe Marigold Project is Rateliff’s foundation dedicated to economic\, racial and social justice. A portion of the events proceeds will benefit MusiCares. “MusiCares has been there for us\, for our band and crew\, in times of need. We honor their work and we are very glad to continue our support of this organization that cares for the broad music family\,” says Rateliff.

SUMMARY:We Were Promised Jetpacks
DESCRIPTION:About We Were Promised Jetpacks \nSometimes you have to go back to basics in order to find yourself again. This is something Scottish rock band We Were Promised Jetpacks realized over the course of creating their fourth full-length album\, The More I Sleep The Less I Dream. \nAfter the musicians finished touring 2014’s Unravelling\, they decamped home to Scotland and took a breath. They reverted to their original four members and dealt with several behind the scenes changes. They celebrated a few marriages and tried to remember who they were when not on the road. A decision was made. No more touring until a new album had been written. \nIt wasn’t until early 2018 that they finally felt they had a collection of songs they were proud of. But only after taking a few wrong turns along the way. \n“The first batch of songs were written for the wrong reason\,” Mike says. “We put a lot of pressure on ourselves and ended up writing a certain kind of song. Focusing more on choruses and structure\, trying to simplify everything.” \n“We scrapped probably a full album\,” Adam adds. “Something just felt off about them. They didn’t work at all.” So\, they regrouped. Instead of focusing on external expectations\, they decided to write for themselves. To write songs that made them happy. \n“The More I Sleep\, The Less I Dream” was one of the first songs to help shift the band in the right direction. It didn’t take long to write with all members quickly connecting with its darker vibe. “All of the songs we scrapped were very calculated\, whereas this song just flowed. It was instinctive. That gave us the confidence to believe that we could actually do this\, just the four of us\,” Mike notes. “After that everything else just clicked.” \n“I’m glad we got that out of our system.” Adam says. “A lot of the songs on the album are a reaction to that. We wouldn’t have arrived at them without going the wrong way first.” \nFrom there\, they focused on making sure each song was fully realized before even thinking about studios or recording. After meeting up regularly and writing constantly at their rehearsal space in Leith\, Edinburgh for two years\, the band made sure they knew all of their songs inside out. Every single detail of everyone’s parts poured over\, refined\, built on. “We didn’t want to fall back on studio tricks or extra sounds\,” Mike says. “If it wasn’t right in the room\, then it wasn’t right. If a section needed to sound bigger we’d have to find a way to make it sound bigger live in the room. No excuses.” \nThe musicians connected with producer Jonathan Low (The National\, Sufjan Stevens\, Kurt Vile\, The War on Drugs) and were inspired by his approach to their vision and his grounded style. After making their prior albums in England\, Scotland and Iceland\, it felt like a good opportunity to try crafting songs in the U.S. The album was recorded over the course of five weeks at Minor Street in Philadelphia and Long Pond in New York’s Hudson Valley in early 2018. The preparation turned out to be essential\, helping the musicians keep each song simple and minimal. “Jon was totally onboard with us only adding things that underlined what we wrote together in the rehearsal space. We wanted it to sound like it was alive and he really helped us realize that” Adam says. \nLyrically\, The More I Sleep The Less I Dream reflects a group of people who have grown up since they first emerged on the scene with These Four Walls in 2009. During the making of this album all four members turned 30\, and felt like vastly different people to the four 20-year-olds that they were when they first started releasing music. Concepts of miscommunication and self-doubt thread throughout the songs\, beginning with the surge of the album’s opening track “Impossible”\, carrying through to the emotionally wrought\, slow-burner “Hanging In”\, and onwards to the relentless drive of “Repeating Patterns” and the menacing album closer “The More I Sleep\, The Less I Dream.” \n“The album is so much about us going back to our basics and relying on our instincts.” Mike says. “There’s a range of songs that span everything we do as a band\, and we’re the connection between them. It feels like this album is us.” \nThe More I Sleep The Less I Dream marks a new chapter in We Were Promised Jetpacks’ career. It’s about going back to the heart of who they are\, a high school band that never stopped. It’s about four people who have grown up together\, making a conscious choice to keep writing music and seeing where that takes them. \nSometimes you must go back to basics in order to find yourself again. But once you have\, then what? It’s one thing to say you want to take a step forward\, it’s a much more daunting prospect actually doing so. The More I Sleep The Less I Dream contains the essence of what the band have grown into\, both as artists and as people. They’ve taken their experiences\, both from their ten years as a touring band and from the changes in their personal lives and forged them into an album that represents a new phase for the band.

SUMMARY:SUSTO
DESCRIPTION:About SUSTO \nMobility has always helped define America. Don’t settle for where you start. Find a new town\, new coast\, or new state of mind — then make it yours. “We export this idea of getting in your car and going somewhere\, trying to find something new\, bouncing around\,” says Justin Osborne. “We live in some strange\, crazy times. There is a sense of darkness. But I’m crisscrossing the country\, and people are good and fun. There is a lot of beauty everywhere. I think not forgetting that is important.” \nOsborne is home in Charleston\, South Carolina\, reflecting on the personal journey and cultural climate that have led to Ever Since I Lost My Mind\, the third record and label debut for his acclaimed project SUSTO. The album is a resounding triumph: a mix of new partnerships and collaborations with old friends\, all anchored by Osborne’s perceptive songs that explore connection\, loss\, and transience — and the pain and joy each brings. \n“Ever Since I Lost My Mind is very personal. This collection of songs came together over the course of a couple of years\, and they all represent different moments\,” he says. “It felt cathartic writing all of them\, and they were also all fun in different ways.” \nWith a rock-rooted sound that doesn’t shy away from radio-ready hooks\, SUSTO keeps listeners engaged by refusing to occupy an easily defined space. Produced by Ian Fitchuck (Kacey Musgraves\, Ruston Kelly) and featuring key input from Osborne’s longtime creative sounding board Wolfgang Zimmerman\, Ever Since I Lost My Mind defiantly experiments with synth embellishments\, Latin heart\, guileless folk\, and more. Osborne’s mellow vocals comfort without losing the ability to surprise — delicate croons\, growls\, and occasional screams take turns. \nThat acceptance of himself and others may be SUSTO‘s defining trait. “I can lose my mind on stage sometimes — I will break down and cry or have to keep myself from doing it\,” Osborne says. “I think about my grandad’s guitar\, all the bands I’ve been in\, and just seeing these people responding to and connecting with the songs…” He trails off before grinning again and adding\, “I just feel so incredibly lucky.”

SUMMARY:Tall Heights
DESCRIPTION:About Tall Heights \nTall Heights have relentlessly built a career from the ground up. Starting as buskers on the streets of Boston and now performing in packed venues across North America\, Europe\, and beyond\, the duo has distilled their sound in an organic and unselfconscious way. The unmistakable DNA of their music draws on many elements\, but the blend of their two distinct voices\, in both harmony and unison\, is what elevates it and separates it from the pack. \nHailing from the Boston area\, Paul Wright and Tim Harrington met each other in their hometown of Sturbridge through Tim’s older brother. The friendship blossomed in high school when they both took up the guitar and began working on music together. It didn’t take long for them to see the potential hidden in these casual jam sessions. As Paul recalls\, “Tim transformed from kid brother to musical collaborator over the course of a summer.” \nTall Heights is now set to release two highly-anticipated singles\, ‘Keeps Me Light’ and ‘Under Your Skin’\, both mixed by Grammy-nominated engineer Damien Lewis. Following on the success of their viral single ‘Spirit Cold’\, this new material captures a similar authentic and meaningful energy\, but also shows a side we have not yet seen of the pair. The self-produced project\, recorded in their simple home studio\, captures that raw moment between albums\, delivering some of their most honest and heartfelt work to date. Written and recorded in a reflective lull between hectic periods of touring\, the new tracks reaffirm Tall Heights’ commitment to a singular sound and an equally rare friendship. \nCombining Paul’s lifetime of classical training\, Harrington’s spontaneous artistic instincts\, and the prismatic union of their unique voices\, Tall Heights’ sonic imprint is in a category all its own. \nTall Heights’ recordings have amassed over 275 million streams. They regularly serve as Ben Folds’ backing band\, and have toured alongside CAKE\, Judah & the Lion\, Colony House\, and The Paper Kites. They’ve also performed on both Conan in 2016 and CBS Saturday Morning in 2018. ‘Under Your Skin’ and ‘Keeps Me Light’ are due for release fall 2019.

SUMMARY:Magic City Hippies
DESCRIPTION:About Magic City Hippies \nIf you’re playing in Miami\, you’ve got to get bodies moving. \nOver the years\, the city has been home to Latin pop royalty and ascendant Soundcloud rappers; played host to bass-booming EDM fests and the golden years of disco legends. It’s also why Miami’s latest genre-defying dynamos\, Magic City Hippies\, are primed to take their infectious indie-funk around the world. \n“We’re always out to entertain people\,” promises singer-guitarist Robby Hunter. “Miami is a nightlife city\,” he adds with a tinge of excitement. “People are oriented towards staying out all night. Anything you do has to make them dance.” \nAs Magic City Hippies approach the Aug. 16 release of their standout debut album Modern Animal — a mosaic of poolside grooves and lingering\, sun-kissed melodies — the trio’s origin story remains central to its crowd-pleasing mission statement. \nFirst it was just Hunter — hustling the Miami streets\, plugging his guitar and looping pedals into whatever power source he could find. Sometimes crowds formed; sometimes others joined in. On a good night\, he’d maybe earn a hundred bucks. The next stop was Barracuda Bar & Grill\, a popular Coconut Grove dive where Hunter became a regular performer and forged a sublime chemistry with the rest of Magic City Hippies’ present-day lineup: guitarist John Coughlin and drummer-producer Pat Howard. They began playing ‘90s rock and hip-hop covers to weekend warriors and college crowd regulars\, before live-testing their first original tracks in 2011. “There was something special when we played those sets\,” Howard remembers. “We’d go for four hours\, not even rehearsing. Then Robby came to the table with some originals.” \nThe easygoing psych-rap nugget “Corazon\,” released when they were still called Robby Hunter Band\, shot to No. 1 on the Hype Machine in 2013; after shifting to Magic City Hippies\, “Fanfare\,” the swaggering opening track off 2015’s Hippie Castle EP\, topped Spotify’s Global Viral 50 chart\, thanks to a burgeoning online fanbase. With brothers Ferny (keyboard) and Guillermo Belisario (bass) added to a now-indomitable live lineup\, Magic City Hippies embarked on extensive tours supporting bands like Hippo Campus and Moon Taxi. Crowds doubled and tripled\, confidence soared. Still unsigned and completely independent in their approach\, Magic City Hippies pushed distractions aside and worked tirelessly towards their first LP. \n“We’ve been touring for three years\,” Hunter says. “The album has a lot to do with the toll it’s taken on our relationships and lives.” No kidding: Robby was fired from a full-time job and ended a relationship of over eight years. Swirling single “SPF” comes to terms with a cheating partner through beams of Toro Y Moi-inspired Auto-Tune and bass licks. “What Would I Do” rides a catchy bossa hook towards the sonic equivalent of a Miami sunset. The sultry “Modern Animal” explores the liberation of open relationships through an irresistible Tame Impala rhythm and a safari of synthesizers. Clearly\, inspirations abound — Hunter occasionally raps a la Odelay-era Beck or Anthony Kedis when he’s addicted to the shindig — but their self-described “indie funk” sound remains uniquely their own. “People always say it’s hard to find another band we sound like\,” Howard says. “I’m proud of that — any song could be a single.” \nModern Animal is set to crown Magic City Hippies as one of streaming’s ascendant indie bands\, while taking their captivating live show to major festivals like Lollapalooza\, Bonnaroo\, and BottleRock\, alongside plenty of North American headline gigs through 2020.

After releasing 2 demos in 2003 and 2004\, the band gained the attention and signed with MetalBlade Records. \nFollowing the Worldwide releases of the critically acclaimed One(Hellbound) and Two(Poverty) the band toured extensively and shared the stage with such bands as Slayer\, Cannibal Corpse\, Chimaira\, King Diamond\, Dismember\, Exodus\, Grave\, Ringworm\, Deicide\, etc. After playing hundreds of shows and gaining thousands of fans worldwide\, the band decided to go on hiatus in 2011. \nIn 2016\, Demiricous reunited for a one-off reunion show at the Vogue Theater of epic proportions. SUMMARY:North Mississippi Allstars
DESCRIPTION:About North Mississippi Allstars \nA forgotten roll of film inspired a musical accompaniment\, the North Mississippi Allstars’ new record Up and Rolling. Shot before the turn of the century\, the photographs resonate with the music of four families from the Mississippi hills. The album captures the communal spirit upon which the band was founded. \nIn 1996\, a photographer from Texas\, Wyatt McSpadden\, traveled to North Mississippi looking to photograph local musicians. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson had grown up just south of Memphis and cut their teeth playing experimental rock & roll together\, as well as the roots repertoire pioneered by their father\, Jim Dickinson\, a legendary producer (Big Star\, the Replacements) and session player (Rolling Stones\, Bob Dylan). Their feet were firmly planted in the North Mississippi mud and music scene\, and they were excited to show Wyatt around their community\, to introduce him to the musical families of Otha Turner\, RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. \nTheir first stop was Otha Turner’s farm. Then in his late eighties\, he was the last living fife and drum musician in the hills — “and a friend to all\,” Luther exclaims. “He looked sharp that day\, still in his Sunday best and ready for a good time.” They all sat together on Otha’s fabled front porch\, which was something like a classroom for the elder Dickinson brother. The two would sit for hours\, the kid playing guitar while the old man made up lyrics on the spot. That’s how “Call That Gone” came into the world\, decades before the Allstars recorded it for Up and Rolling. \nAfter Otha treated Wyatt to an impromptu concert featuring his family band of drummers\, the fife player sent them down to Junior Kimbrough’s nightclub. They crossed the county line to see Junior and his Soul Blues Boys perform electrified\, multigenerational cotton patch blues in their own unique style. Later that evening RL Burnside showed up\, took the bandstand with beer in hand\, and proceeded to tear the house down. “Wyatt was so smooth nobody felt he was taking photos\,” Luther recalls. “No one was self-conscious or posing. Wyatt had a cloak of invisibility.” \nOnce the Peavey amps were turned off and the jukebox unplugged\, Cody and Luther parted ways with the Texan. Wyatt shared a handful of the images with Otha and the Dickinsons but no one saw the remaining photographs for decades. Wyatt’s images were forgotten. The Dickinsons had other matters demanding their attention — namely\, a new band they envisioned as a loose collective of local musicians who would play the community’s repertoire. \nA month after Wyatt took those photos\, the North Mississippi Allstars made their Memphis debut\, incorporating their father’s concept of roots music as a framework for improvisation and blending experimental/psychedelic excursions into Hill Country anthems. As Luther tells it\, “after NMA first shook em’ down in Memphis\, RL Burnside hired me to tour with him in ’97. A natural momentum began building up that slowly led to Cody and I hitting the road full-time. Our lives changed forever with the release of Shake Hands with Shorty in 2000. The music that rings thru the hills carried us away and became our home away from home as we began touring around the world. In orbit\, we lost track of time and of ourselves.” \nShake Hands with Shorty made the Allstars one of the most celebrated roots acts around. In 23 years they’ve released ten studio albums\, three of which were nominated for Blues Album of the Year Grammys. (Luther has notched another four nominations in various categories on top of that.) More important\, they’ve played countless shows in front of avid crowds\, touring alongside Robert Plant\, Patty Griffin\, Mavis Staples\, and John Hiatt\, among many others. Says Luther\, “I’m grateful to work together as a family — with Cody\, the musicians we roll with and the people who support our live shows. Together\, we keep this music up and rolling.” \nAll those years of touring took the Dickinson brothers far away from their North Mississippi home and the people who taught them this music. “The elders passed on in our absence — Junior\, Otha\, RL\, our father\,” Luther says. “Every time we returned home\, it was less recognizable.” In 2017 Wyatt tracked the brothers down and shared those photographs with them. “The images stopped me in my tracks and blew my mind. The music that changed our lives was captured in these photographs. Cody and I wanted to set the music free and record an album to accompany these photographs illustrating what Mississippi music sounded like in 1996 — and what it sounds like now. The fantasy of what music could have been on the radio that day in ’96 was the portal for the new original songs we recorded for this soundtrack. ‘Drunk Outdoors’\, ‘Up and Rolling’\, ‘Bump That Mother’\, and ‘Living Free’ sing about life in Mississippi\, be it our memory\, reality\, or dream for the future.” \nInspired by Wyatt’s images\, the Allstars returned home to their family recording studio\, the Zebra Ranch\, to make the record they heard in those photographs. “We trimmed back the wisteria\, emptied the traps\, and swept out the old barn. Firing up the tube amps and the old computers\, we began conjuring up modern Mississippi music\, ancient and futuristic.” \nAlong with originals\, they covered some of their favorite songs by these local heroes\, with help from Cedric Burnside and Sharde Thomas\, Otha’s granddaughter. “She was only a child when she became his apprentice and heir to the bamboo throne of fife and drum music\,” says Luther. “Now she’s the Queen of the Hill Country and my favorite singing partner.” In addition to duetting with him on RL’s raunchy “Peaches\,” she also sings with Luther on Otha’s “Call That Gone.” “She read over her grandfather’s lyrics and proceeded to nail it in one take. It was like she was singing from the collective soul of her family.” \nCedric Burnside\, RL’s grandson and two-time Grammy nominee\, is featured on two tracks.  “It’s an honor to play with Cedric. “Out on the Road” was a highlight of the RL tour we played together in ’97 and he sang his heart out on the new version.” \n“When we make a record\,” says Luther\, “we invite the people close to us at the time to join us.  Recording with the musicians we are touring with or hanging with help capture a record’s time frame.”  The great Mavis Staples takes them all to church on the old spiritual “What You Gonna Do?” Jason Isbell joins to record a tune that has been in the Dickinson family for years: “Our father recorded ‘Mean Old World’ with Duane Allman and Eric Clapton during the Layla sessions.  Jason invited me to record an acoustic\, slide guitar duo version. Cody came up with the new arrangement and wanted to record an electric version with Jason and Duane Betts\, using Mean Old World as a vehicle to lay down an epic statement about modern-day roots rock guitar.” \nAs Cody puts it\, “It’s all inclusive. Everyone is invited\, the bar is always open\, and drinks are on the house. But it’s important to us that we stay true to the vision of Hill Country music. There is incredible talent here in North Mississippi\, so I’m always learning. The best thing about being in this band this long is developing a sound and identity that is unique. That’s truly a blessing\, so we do our best to keep the music honest.” \nWhile inspired by the community and music of that Sunday more than 20 years ago\, Up and Rolling is the sound of modern Mississippi. Luther hopes\, “the music is rooted\, but spreads evasively from the kudzu jungle grown over Junior’s concrete slab and Otha’s porch boards thru the Zebra Ranch’s razor wire chain link fence.  Transcending time and space\, music reaches out into the dark of night like the wisteria vine\, looking for free-hearted souls to latch onto and wedge into the foundations of hate\, slowly tearing down walls a generation at a time.”

SUMMARY:Black Pumas (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:This event is currently sold out\, but we’ve partnered with Lyte to provide fans a safe and easy way to return or request tickets to the show. Find fan tickets here.  \n——————– \nSometimes\, a mystical\, life-changing connection can be closer than you think. \nIn 2017\, Grammy Award-winning guitarist/producer Adrian Quesada had recorded some instrumentals in his Austin studio\, and he started looking around for a vocalist — he knew a lot of singers\, but he wanted something different. He reached out to friends in Los Angeles\, in London\, but nothing seemed right. \nMeantime\, Eric Burton had recently made his way to Texas. Born in the San Fernando Valley\, he grew up in church and then got heavily involved in musical theater. He started busking at the Santa Monica pier\, where he brought in a few hundred dollars a day and developed his performance skills. Burton traveled through the Western states before deciding to settle down in Austin — setting up his busking spot on a downtown street corner\, at 6th Street and Congress\, for maximum exposure. \nA mutual friend mentioned Burton to Quesada\, saying that he was the best singer he had ever heard. The two musicians connected\, but Burton took a while to respond (“My friends were like ‘Dude\, you’re a mad man\, you need to hit that guy back!’“) Finally\, he called Quesada\, and started singing to one of the tracks over the phone. “I loved his energy\, his vibe\, and I knew it would be incredible on record\,” he says. “From the moment I heard him on the phone\, I was all about it.” \nThe results of that inauspicious beginning can now be heard on the self-titled debut album from Black Pumas\, the group that Quesada and Burton assembled\, which has become one of the year’s most anticipated projects. Described as “Wu-Tang Clan meets James Brown” by KCRW\, Black Pumas were the winner of Best New Band at the 2019 Austin Music Awards. \nQuesada and Burton both return\, over and over\, to this almost mystical connection they felt from the beginning. It’s this sense of common purpose\, of shared vision\, that gives Black Pumas its focus and power — and that points to great things ahead. \n“It’s so seamless\, it’s like we’re musical brothers to some degree\,” says Burton. “It feels so easy to meld together that what’s most important for us now is to continue to look for new sounds — to make sure we’re feeding ourselves the knowledge to continue to evolve. Every time we get together\, it’s better than the last time.”
